Parenting is a big responsibility, but it can be a very rewarding experience. You have likely formed your own opinions about parenting from observing your loved ones or watching parent-child relationships on TV shows or in movies. The truth is parenting can look different for everyone. It can be challenging, especially if you’re a first-time parent. But many parents report that the love they have for their child is like no other, and they enjoy being able to nurture them.
Questions to ask yourself…
Before choosing to parent, you’ll want to carefully consider this option and ask yourself questions like these:
- What support system do I have in place to help me parent my child?
- Am I financially able to support a child?
- What preconceived ideas do I have about parenting? Are they true?
- Do I need any material support to raise a child?
- What are my biggest concerns about parenting? What am I most afraid of?
While these questions are not an exhaustive list, they will give insight into whether parenting may be a good option for you.
What Resources are available to me?
More resources are available to expectant and current parents than you might think. Your community likely offers a variety of free or low-cost resources like food banks, medical assistance, and material support. Your local pregnancy center will also direct you to support services and programs to help you be the best parent possible.
Sav-A-Life can help you find those resources, and we’d be proud to walk alongside you during your parenting journey. Sometimes all it takes is a friendly face and a listening ear to make a tough situation more bearable. We’re also happy to offer our Earn While You Learn Program, which enables you to receive material support by taking parenting classes at our center. This is an excellent opportunity to become an even better parent and receive supplies like diapers and wipes.
We’re here to help you during your parenting journey!
